Baern, one of the phantom zone escapee, seeks revenge against Clark; he feeds off radioactive energy, and after absorbing enormous energy from the box Lex possesses, he goes to kill Clark. Baern kills Raya before annihilated by Jor'EL's crystal. With enough power to reactivate the fortress, Clark decides to complete his training, but not before defeating the other three phantom zoners.
